Favorite Things Bonus: Star Wars Nostalgia
Its almost time. I've waited 10 years since the last Star Wars movie. 10 years. What was I doing in 2005? 12 year old me was walking out of Revenge of the Sith seriously distraught. That was it I thought, the last Star Wars movie I'd see in my lifetime. It was a wrap, George Lucas would go and remaster all his films, make Han shoot second (even though he shot first in the OG film) and I'd be stuck re-watching the films I'd grown up to love.
Now I'm 22 years old. I wasn't even an idea when the first film dropped in 1977. I could have very well missed the entire Star Wars wave, after all, my parent's weren't into the sci-fi genre. Thankfully, my grandfather dropped my twin brother and I off a special boxed edition of the original three movies for Christmas in 1998. I've pictured it below:
We watched these same three movies dozens of times. I became obsessed with them. I wanted more, and took home the Star Wars Encyclopedia from the local library, reading it cover to cover. I got into the Star Wars extended narrative, reading official books from the franchise that told the stories of random characters that had seconds of screen time in the original movies.
I was a Star Wars Stan. No way around it. And with the next installment in the series right around the corner, I'm beginning to bask in the Star Wars nostalgia. Most recently, I found myself in love with the Star Wars shirts just released at Urban Outfitters, so much so I splurged and walked out with three shirts from their exclusive drop. I'm ready for the merchandising, and with Star Wars being quite possibly the most successfully merchandised franchise of all time, I'm excited to see what collaborations and partnerships are in-store for the future.
